about

(2004). This is my absolute favorite beat I've ever made. Inspired by the classic album "Back to the Old School" by Just Ice (1984). The sample is from the song 'Put the Record Back On" which is the hardest b-boy song EVER. It's probably my favorite Just Ice song as well. I used to have the full album on Vinyl but I'm sure I left it somewhere over the years and lost it but I'm glad I was able to grab the sample from it.

This beat gave me hope that shit would get better in my life because during those years I was enduring some major depressing stretches while living in Tucson. The process of making it gave me a sense of assurance that I was capable of creating some awesome shit. I remember playing this beat on a house stereo at a random party and after about a minute or so I observed a kid declare "this beat is sick" to his buddy who nodded in agreement. I never told them I was the dude who made the beat but I was definitely like "hell yea this shit is sick!". HAHA.

Peep the change up around 1:23. That's where it starts to go down.
